Overview
The Marble Chapels and Cathedral are mineral formations sculpted by centuries of waves in Lake General Carrera, creating cavities and columns in blue and gray tones. From Puerto Río Tranquilo, you can access them by boat or kayak to get a close look at these water-polished walls. It is one of the most unique natural icons of Aysén.Visitor Information
- Location: The formations are located 220 km south of Coyhaique, on the shore of Lake General Carrera. The starting point for visiting them is the village of Puerto Río Tranquilo.
- Formation: The chapels and cathedral are calcium carbonate formations that have been eroded by the lake’s waters over thousands of years.
- Access: The only way to explore them is through boat or kayak excursions, as they are found in the water.
- Tours: In Puerto Río Tranquilo, there are several tourist agencies offering daily tours to the sanctuary. Tours usually last between 1.5 and 2.5 hours and prices vary according to duration and agency. Some tours include a visit to the Puerto Sánchez caverns.
- Weather conditions: Tours are subject to lake and weather conditions.

- By land: You can arrive from Coyhaique by car, bus, or transfer via the Austral Highway (Route 7).
